Well hello to everyone, I hope everyone had a wonderfull Holiday.
Today I would like to discuss Refrigerants, RSES is going to hold a meeting in March to discuss the high price of refrigerants and the phase out of R22. R22 and all Refrigerants that are HCFC is being phased out and As I understand it another price increase is coming as the gas becomes more scarce
So let me dispell some rumors and provide solutions
First and formost it is still legal to get R-22 and its Legal to fix and repair systems that contain it.
Most people do not realize that large facilitys such as supermarkets and large building with chiller systems still use large quantitys of R-22 and the gas will be available for years. For instance R-12 used for cooling small cases and walk in coolers as well Cars is still available (I Ownd 20 plus pounds) but is expensive. This gas is was phased out in the 1990’s.
Also the market and engineers have and are producing “Drop in ” alternatives that can be added to an existing system without any modification at a resonable cost
But when the time come to replace your system, It will be charged with 410a or as Dupont calls it “Puron” Everyday this Refrigerant is becoming more and more plentiful which causing the price to Drecrease. In fact to less than 8 dollars per pound, compared to R-22 which is 70 per pound
IF A COMPANY TELLS YOU THAT THEY MUST REPLACE A SYSTEM BECAUSE ITS ILLEGAL TO REPAIR, TELL THEM TO HIT THE ROAD. LET ME STRESS THIS AGAIN. ITS IS NOT ILLEGAL TO REPAIR OR ADD REFRIGERANT TO A EXISTING SYTEM THAT CONTAINS R-22. TELL THEM TO LEAVE, Call me or another reprical company.
If you should have a coment or like to discuss this please feel free to Call my office at 791-8501 or respond back. Look for my blog on Sunday and Wednesday everyweek
