There is a lot of talk about the phasing out of R-22. Many company’s are trying to scare there customers into replacing perfectly good A/C units because of the phase out.
It is true that R-22 is going away. The EPA has cut production by 50%. But as Units are being replaced with the New Refrigerant there is less of a Demand so the price should not peak as much. Also There are alternatives such as R 1099 which is a great sub substitute.
When the time does come to make that replacement, It is a good Idea to replace both inside and Outside unit. Its is not necessary to replace the line set but it is critical that the line set be cleaned. Don’t be pressured and if your unit is under 10 years old don’t be pressured
